Welcome!

The Sesame Street Beginnings: Talk, Read, Write! program provides resource materials to parents and caregivers that support and engage them in the delightful and important process of literacy development for preschool children, ages 3-5. Developed by Sesame Workshop and generously funded by The Prudential Foundation, the central goal of the bilingual multimedia program is improving the four fundamental skills necessary for literacy development: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

After a sucessful program launch in 2002, including the distribution of 75,000 multimedia kits, free of charge, to child care programs, local resource and referral agencies, public broadcasting stations, libraries, family literacy programs, and a variety of local community based organizations, this program is now available as an online resource center for parents!

The Sesame Street Beginnings: Talk, Read, Write! program goals are:

  • To increase awareness and understanding among parents and caregivers about the importance of the early years in children's language and literacy development.

  • To help parents gain a better understanding of the critical role they play as their children's first and most important teachers and role models.

  • To provide parents and caregivers with practical strategies and materials to increase their children's literacy readiness for entering school.

In addition to this online resource, copies of the complete Sesame Street Beginnings: Talk, Read, Write! videotape (in English or Spanish) and related printed materials are available to the public via Sesame Workshop's web site.
